Walter's father, Peter Stevenson, was a wonderful musician and a great preacher who pastored a fellowship in Ayr. Peter often ministered in America, going on preaching tours lasting from a few weeks to a few months at a time. Walter's grandfather was a preacher too, but Walter's story proves you need to trust God personally to get to heaven.
God had his hand on Walter from the start, as he saved both Walter and his Mum's lives when he was born prematurely. As a child Walter was healed from fits he had taken regularly for six years.
Walter gave his life to the Lord as a child, but rebelled in teenage years and turned away from God. While backslidden, Walter smoked, gambled, was a womaniser and alcoholic - but God restored him, miraculously delivered him from alcohol and set him free from the other things that had a hold on his life!
Walter was a professional country and western singer using the stage name of Cash McCall, but on the day he came back to the Lord he knew that from that time on he would sing only for the Lord. From that very night, Walter turned his back on secular music and has since sung only good positive gospel music.
Since 1983 he has been involved in praise and worship, and since 1985 has also been a worship leader. Walter leads praise with Prison Fellowship, at Teen Challenge with Christian Prison Ministries, and when asked to do so at churches and fellowships.
Walter carried on his solo ministry while the boys were small, but in 1990 Ishbel started to join him, and a few years later they started serving the
Lord and ministering full time together. Walter has a real passion to see souls saved and backsliders returning to the Lord.
God has richly anointed Walter's ministry and while singing, both in person or on tape, people have been healed, backsliders have returned and others have been set free from depression and other ailments.
In 1997 Walter started to put tunes to lyrics that had been written for him, and has now composed quite a number of songs. God is constantly leading Walter into new things as he grows in the Lord and receives what God has for him.
