Both Walter and Ishbel are involved in prison work and are in a prayer group and volunteer team going into prison on a weekly basis with Prison Fellowship.
Walter has sung in every prison in Scotland with the exception of two. At last count that was twenty prisons. Although some have since been closed down, this was no reflection on Walter's singing!
They also work with Christian Prison Ministries visiting Drop-in Centres involved in after-care, and sharing in prisons. Walter often goes to ‘The Haven’ at Kilmacolm with Colin Cuthbert of Christian Prison Ministries.
Walter and lshbel believe that although physically imprisoned you can be spiritually set free - and they have seen many lives changed dramatically by God over the course of their work.
While on tour they are happy to visit any prison in the vicinity to sing and share with the inmates.
THE RELEASED PROJECT
 | |
The Released project was started in 1998 to give a special tape that Walter and lshbel recorded away free to prisoners.
There are 13 tracks on the tape with links to focus the listeners attention on the message of the song, a Gospel message and a sinner's prayer.
The tape was only made possible by a wonderful donation from a lady who was obedient to God and had a heart for prisoners, as the Bible encourages us to. |
The Released project is an ongoing project because the prison population is continually changing! It is hoped to add a CD version of the tape soon, and to add some new material.
If you are involved in prison ministry and would like copies of the tape 'Lord you are my Liberty' then just contact Walter and Ishbel.
Prayer is very much valued for the ongoing work of this project.
Anyone wishing to contribute financially to the work of this project can do so by sending a cheque or crossed Postal Orders made payable to 'Released Project'.
Walter & Ishbel have ministered in Dungavel Immigration Centre, and Walter regularly ministers in Carstairs State Hospital too, although both these establishments are not prisons but are secure units.
